The Creator of Mad Max Records a Message for Kazakhstan
George Miller, the director of the iconic Mad Max franchise, has recorded a video message for participants of Kazakhstan’s Drive Forum GREAT ORDA festival, which will take place in Konaev from July 24 to 26.

In his message, Miller said he was honored to learn that the Mad Max universe had inspired the creation of the festival.
“The true spirit of the Mad Max story is not just about cars and desert roads. It is also about freedom, courage, and the determination to keep moving forward, no matter the circumstances,” Miller said.
The festival itself is not dedicated to cinema. Instead, its organizers use the aesthetics of Mad Max as a starting point for exploring themes of travel, expeditions, and life on the road. In their vision, cars and motorcycles represent a modern continuation of the nomadic tradition, while the Kazakh steppe becomes a landscape for new journeys.
This concept differs from the way tourism is typically promoted in Central Asia, where the focus is often placed on natural landscapes, historical landmarks, or national cuisine. Drive Forum GREAT ORDA instead draws on a globally recognizable pop culture reference.
The festival will take place on the shores of the Kapchagay Reservoir. The program includes an expedition camp, a custom vehicle exhibition, off-road competitions, themed installations, and a screening of Mad Max: Fury Road.
