Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Discuss Water Resource Management
Representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan met in Bishkek to discuss water and energy cooperation.

The parties discussed cooperation during the growing season, as well as preparations for the 2026–2027 autumn-winter period. Particular attention was paid to the coordinated operation of water management and energy facilities.
Following the talks, the sides signed a joint protocol outlining the framework for cooperation in July and August 2026. The next meeting of representatives from the three countries is scheduled for August.
What was agreed
Under the agreements reached, the countries will continue coordinating the operation of water management and energy systems. This is aimed at ensuring a stable supply of water and energy resources across the region during the summer months and in preparation for the heating season.
The protocol sets out the main parameters of cooperation for the coming months and defines further steps for joint action.
Why it matters
Water and energy remain among the most important issues in Central Asia. The countries of the region share water resources and interconnected energy systems, making ongoing coordination essential for their effective management.
Regular discussions on water and energy allow the countries to align their actions during periods of increased demand for both water and electricity.
The next meeting of representatives from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is scheduled for August. The parties are expected to review the implementation of the agreements reached and discuss further cooperation in the water and energy sector.
