Checkmate: Uzbekistan Wins the Chess Olympiad in Samarkand
Uzbekistan’s men’s national chess team has won the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.
This is Uzbekistan’s second Olympic gold in chess. The country’s players first won the title in 2022 in Chennai, India.
In the final, 11th round, Uzbekistan faced Ukraine and won 2.5–1.5.
The Uzbek grandmasters finished the tournament with 20 points. India and Germany followed with 18 points each.
The Uzbekistan team featured Javokhir Sindarov, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Nodirbek Yakubboev, Shamsiddin Vokhidov and Mukhiddin Madaminov. The team was coached by Rustam Kasimdzhanov.
The 46th World Chess Olympiad was held in Samarkand from September 15 to 27, 2026.
