Amazon Leo Satellite Internet Launches in Uzbekistan

UZ-SAT, a subsidiary of Uztelecom, has become an authorized Amazon Leo distributor in Uzbekistan. The company will provide customers with connectivity solutions using Amazon’s satellite network.

Where satellite connectivity will be used

The new technology will complement existing ground-based networks. It will primarily serve remote communities and areas where building traditional telecommunications infrastructure is difficult or less cost-effective.

For residents, satellite connectivity could expand access to digital government services, distance learning, online medical consultations and remote work. Businesses could use the service to connect production and infrastructure facilities in hard-to-reach areas.

Uztelecom currently provides connectivity to 96% of Uzbekistan’s populated areas and operates 378,802 km of fiber-optic networks. The company is also developing mobile networks, data centers and cloud platforms.

What is Amazon Leo?

Amazon Leo operates with an initial constellation of more than 3,000 satellites connected to a global network of ground gateway stations and dedicated fiber-optic infrastructure.

The service will use three types of compact user terminals: Amazon Leo Nano, Amazon Leo Pro and Amazon Leo Ultra.

The satellite network will provide an additional connectivity option for areas where ground-based networks have limited reach or are less practical to deploy.
