Ancient Altar Discovered in Kashkadarya Region
Archaeologists have discovered an ancient altar and an ossuary – a vessel used to store human remains – at the Odirmon archaeological site in the Kamashi district of the Kashkadarya region.
The altar is located in the northeastern part of the site. Traces of fire have been preserved on its surface. The structure is about 70 cm high and 90 cm wide, while its floor is paved with fired bricks. According to archaeologists, the altar’s clay coating was renewed several times, suggesting that the structure may have been used over an extended period.
The outer surface of the ossuary bears images resembling a deer and an archa (juniper) tree. Their meaning has not yet been established, and specialists plan to study the images after the artefact is restored.
Preliminary findings indicate that the Odirmon archaeological site dates from the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD.
