The record was set at HackAlem AI, held in Astana on September 23. A total of 2,415 people took part in the hackathon.

The previous record belonged to India. On December 21, 2025, an AI hackathon organized by Google for Developers and Google Developer Groups Hyderabad brought together 2,089 participants in Hyderabad. Kazakhstan surpassed that figure by 326 participants.

The result was confirmed by Guinness World Records official judge Glenn Pollard. Participants were registered and identified, while entry and exit were tracked using personal badges. The final figure included only those who met the record requirements and took part directly in the hackathon.

At the event, participants developed AI solutions across 10 areas: energy, finance, government, telecommunications, logistics, creative industries, education, innovation, communications and trade. They were also given access to technology and educational resources from OpenAI, NVIDIA and Arizona State University worth up to $1.5 million in total.
