Kyrgyzstan Reaches Space: Country’s First National Satellite Launched into Orbit
Kyrgyzstan has taken its first step toward developing its own space program. On October 1, the country’s first national satellite was launched into orbit from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

The satellite was launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket operated by SpaceX. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov watched the launch from the United States.
The satellite was not launched alone. It was deployed into orbit as part of a group of spacecraft carried by the same launch vehicle. Kyrgyzstan developed the project in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates. The satellite will be operated from a mission control center in Bishkek.
The satellite will allow authorities to monitor agricultural land, glaciers, water bodies, forests and pastures, as well as track changes in natural ecosystems. Satellite imagery is also expected to help identify illegal exploitation of natural resources, unauthorized waste dumps and other sources of pollution.
Another key area is disaster risk monitoring. Satellite data will be used to detect early signs of droughts, floods, landslides, mudflows and wildfires.
In the future, data from the satellite is expected to be integrated into government digital systems. It will be used to develop geospatial maps and analytical models that can support decision-making, investment planning and the implementation of government programs.
