Kazakhstan Plans to Launch Production of Li Auto, OMODA and JAECOO Vehicles
The government has announced plans to launch local production of Chinese automotive brands Li Auto, OMODA and JAECOO, as well as SITRAK autonomous trucks.
Industry and Construction Minister Yersayin Nagaspayev announced the plans during a government meeting.
According to the minister, the agreements were reached during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s recent visit to China. In addition to vehicle production, the parties plan to expand a network of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles in partnership with BYD.
Kazakhstan’s automotive industry continues to grow. More than 171,000 vehicles were produced in the country last year, and the government expects output to increase to around 190,000 vehicles in 2026. During the first six months of the year, 94,400 vehicles rolled off production lines, marking a 35% increase compared with the same period last year.
Kazakhstan currently has 11 manufacturing plants producing passenger cars, buses, trucks and specialized vehicles. Last year, two new facilities – KIA Qazaqstan and Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan – began operations.
In addition to vehicle assembly, the government plans to develop domestic production of automotive components. The initiative includes manufacturing steel, copper, aluminum, plastic and rubber parts, as well as cable products and other components for the automotive industry.
