Turkmenistan and WWF Join Forces to Protect Endangered Wildlife
Turkmenistan and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) have signed a memorandum of cooperation on environmental protection.
The memorandum was signed on August 31 by Turkmenistan’s Minister of Environmental Protection Ovezgeldi Goshjanov and WWF Regional Director Jean-Paul Paddack.
The two sides will develop a joint action plan for 2026–2030, covering projects to protect wildlife, conserve rare species and strengthen protected areas.
The species set to receive particular attention include the Persian leopard, kulan, Bukhara deer, goitered gazelle and Amu Darya shovelnose sturgeon. The plan also includes measures to protect rare bird and plant species.
Turkmenistan and WWF also plan to establish ecological corridors, restore natural habitats and share scientific knowledge and conservation expertise.
Another key area of the agreement is cooperation with Central Asian countries. This will include joint efforts to protect nature in border areas and exchange expertise.
