The process is being coordinated by the Prosecutor General’s Office, while representatives of 10 government agencies are participating in the working group.

The group’s objective is to establish a unified child protection and child-friendly justice system.

Key priorities of the future programme include ensuring quality family-based care for children who are unable to live with their biological families, improving child justice mechanisms, preventing violence against children, and strengthening the overall child protection system.

A draft of the programme is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Children, families, and sector specialists will be involved in its development.

The programme will be based on Turkmenistan’s national legislation, including the National Action Plan for the Realisation of Children’s Rights for 2023–2028, as well as international recommendations, including those issued by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and through the Universal Periodic Review process.
