How Kyrgyzstan Plans to Turn Its Walnuts into a Brand
Kyrgyzstan is creating a national brand for its walnuts. The brand will be called “Natural Kyrgyz Walnut” (Tabigyi Kyrgyz Zhangagy).

The project was developed with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The brand will have its own logo and packaging, while QR codes will provide information about the origin of the product. A dedicated website and social media pages are also planned.
According to FAO, more than 44,000 tonnes of walnuts are harvested in Kyrgyzstan each year. Walnut harvesting and sales provide a source of income for around 60,000 people.
Natural forests play an important role in walnut production. One of the best-known areas is Arslanbob in the Jalal-Abad Region.
Kyrgyzstan aims not only to increase walnut exports but also to develop processing. The country plans to explore organic certification and geographical indication for Kyrgyz walnuts.
